Francisco Lindor walk-off

The Mets' magic of two nights ago was re-created, with a lot of liftoff and a wild comeback.

Drew Smith gave up a two-run bomb to Gabriel Arias to give Cleveland a 9-7 lead, but the Mets were not done. Vientos' RBI single in the bottom of the 10th brought Baty from second base to the automatic runner.

Brandon Nimmo advanced to third on an infield single, and Alvarez (who had reached second after his single on a throw home) advanced to fourth before Lindor jumped onto the first pitch and smashed a shot into the middle to begin the delirium.

Buck Showalter, the manager of his team said that they were tired of losing. They had gone a month without winning any series before beating the Rays two out of three times this week."I shouldn't call it 'losing'. They are just tired that the Mets haven't scored more runs after nine innings than the other team."

Alonso said, "Earlier in the match I thought I had put together some great hits, but they didn't really result in anything: no hit. For me, it's the next pitch, the next at-bat. Just keep fighting, because you never know when one swing will change the game."

Alonso was thrown out of the box in his previous at-bat after he was slow to leave the box. Amed Rosario had dropped a line drive. Alonso was easily thrown out at first base. He apologized to Showalter following the inning. The manager gave him a "hall pass".

Carlos Carrasco's return from the injury list was not smooth. He had last pitched in April. The right-hander pitched five innings, allowing five earned runs and five hits. He also struck out three times and walked two. Carrasco's fifth start of the season was his third in which he allowed at least five runs.

He was immediately smacked, allowing Josh Naylor to hit a three-run bomb in the first inning. Rosario singled, Jose Ramirez was walked and then Naylor jumped onto a sinker which left his bat at 105.6 mph. It easily cleared the fence in the right center. Cam Gallagher hit an RBI single in the second inning, which increased the Mets' deficit to 4-0. Carrasco pitched flawlessly in the third and fourth innings but was beaten again by Rosario's RBI single in the fifth.

Alvarez brought the Mets to within 5-1 with his second homer of the season in the bottom fifth. In the comeback win over the Rays, the rookie caught a three-run blast in the ninth inning before Alonso's walking-off blast in the tenth.

Baty began the sixth inning with a homer in left field, slicing the Guardians' 5-3 lead. Naylor's single with two runs in the seventh put the Mets into a 7-3 hole after the Guardians loaded the bases against Dominic Leone and had no one out.
