No. 16 Fairleigh Dickinson lost to No.16 Fairleigh Dickinson lost to No.9 Florida Atlantic in Round 32.Alijah Martin and the Owls didn't send them off lightly. They made it worse than an evil stepmother with a decision at end of the game.
One rule in basketball is to call off the offense after the game is over. Martin had other plans, however, as he went up for a highlight shot while Martin was up eight seconds.
FAU's head coach Dusty May spoke with Jamie Erdahl about his lengthy conversation with Tobin Anderson, FDU's FDU's Tobin Anderson. He explained that he needed to address some trash-talk and that he was sorry for what happened in the final seconds.
"Someone said that one of our men talked to their bench. I apologized to him, but also reminded him that they are the adults. May stated that we have to correct this behavior."It's part and parcel of the game, but I sincerely apologized to him."
With their win and the fact that the Owls are headed to their first Sweet Sixteen, they deserve their celebration. Martin and FAU were not very good at defending the Knights in this manner, especially when FDU had the lead.
As the Sweet Sixteen begins, there is a noticeable shortage of blue blood programs this year. Duke, Kansas, and Kentucky all lost in Round 2, while North Carolina was eliminated entirely from the NCAA Tournament.
This marks the second consecutive season in which all four of these schools have failed to make it to the round of 16.CBS reports that the 2021 season ends a 40-year streak in which at least one of these programs was in the Sweet Sixteen every year between 1980 and 2019.
