Ground Zero volunteer accepts George Santos’ State of the Union invitation
Rep. George Santos announced Monday he will be joined by Michael Weinstock, Ground Zero's first responder, at Tuesday night's presidential address.

New York's first responder, who was stationed at Ground Zero following 9/11, accepted an invitation from George Santos, a disgraced Rep. George Santos. He's accused of falsely claiming that his mom died in the terrorist attack.
Monday's announcement by Santos was that he would be joined Tuesday night by Michael Weinstock, a former volunteer firefighter/EMT assigned to the "bucket Brigade" that searched for survivors of the attacks at the World Trade Center.
Weinstock, who is now a lawyer, claims that he developed neuropathy, a neurological condition commonly known as the "suicide disorder" due to the unbearable pain it causes. This was a result of his exposures to toxic chemicals and dust in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks." It was an honor to attend President Biden’s State of the Union. Congressman Santos graciously invited me to be his guest. I traveled to Washington to raise awareness about firefighters with neuropathy. According to a Long Island Republican press release, Weinstock stated that this is an issue that transcends politics. It speaks to my heart.""I am proud to be a Democrat, and Congressman Santos is equally proud of being a member the GOP. He said that tonight, however, we speak together and encourage the World Trade Center Health Program's inclusion of neuropathy as a "covered condition".Weinstock said to Howard Stern, a shock jock, that Santos called him last month to express concern over his incurable, painful illness. He asked, "Are your thoughts about suicide?"Would you please tell me if you ever felt suicidal?According to the Republican's 2022 House campaign website, Devolder was "in her office in South Tower on September 11, 2001 when the terrible events of that day unfolded." Although she survived the terrible events of September 11, 2001, she died a few years later after losing her battle with cancer.
An earlier version of Santos' website claimed that his mother was a financial executive. However, NBC News obtained public employment records that showed that her sole employer was an imports business in Queens that closed down in 1994.
According to reports, she made her living as a homekeeper and aide.
Santos stated that he was "grateful" Weinstock accepted the invitation and said that he will work to ensure that the World Trade Center Health Program covers neuropathy for first responders to 9/11."Most importantly, Michael was a gracious guest. We also worked together to address the World Trade Center Health Program, which covers neuropathy for those who have been affected by the dust from the World Trade Center. Michael's story is one that is full of heroism and also one of survival, advocating for his fellow firefighters and medical emergency responders." he said.
A former worker in construction who was injured at Ground Zero and lost his foot called Kevin McCarthy, House Speaker, to discredit Santos for allegedly lying about his mother as a victim of 9/11.
