This process can replace single-use bottles and generate income for the local operator Springwise's first article was A water production system that uses micro-factories local to produce water.

Spotted: The World Health Organization calls the 20-decade-old progress in providing safe drinking water for more than two billion people "fragile", as climate changes are increasing water insecurity. Unsafe sanitation, unsafe drinking water, and poor hygiene are the leading causes of death worldwide. Improving local health is possible by bringing clean water sources to the people. Wayout, a Swedish water technology company, has developed a method to do exactly that.

Wayout's modular production system purifies any source of water and makes it safe for drinking or cooking. Each micro-factory is constructed locally and leases its systems to owners. This reduces transport costs and requires minimal parts and materials. One water production unit can produce 8,000 litres per day of clean water, enough to provide drinking water and cooking water for approximately 2,000 people.

Clean water is stored in smart stainless steel kegs with digital chips to monitor its health. The system has taps that connect to the cloud. This allows owners to understand patterns of usage and help them manage their demand. Wayout's kegs can be easily cleaned with Ozone.

Springwise has identified recent innovations that can remove chemicals permanently and power wastewater treatment using nanomaterials and sunlight.

Around 771 million people around the world don't have access to a better source of water within 30 minutes of their home. Wayout and other organizations are showing how innovation, experimentation, data, and data can all be essential to bringing safe water to everyone. Even for cloud connectivity, the entire system requires very little resources. Wayout's leasing system is affordable and could be used to quickly bring safe drinking water to millions.
