The European Union will unveil its 10th set of sanctions against Russia

According to President Ursula von der Leyen, European Commission President, the sanctions will be used to punish technology used by Russia's warmachine, among other things.
A senior official from the European Union said Friday in Kyiv that the European Union will unveil its 10th set of sanctions against Russia to commemorate the anniversary of Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine. This was in response to Ukrainian forces bracing for a possible Russian offensive in the coming weeks.
According to a Facebook statement, the local prosecutor's office stated that a 60-year old man was killed and six other people were injured when Russian missiles struck central Toretsk in Ukraine's eastern Donetsk.
Two brothers, aged 49 and 42, were killed in a Russian bombardment that destroyed an apartment building in the northeastern Kharkiv area. Their 70-year old father was also hospitalized for injuries.
Six people were also injured and 18 apartments, two hospitals, and a school were destroyed in a Russian attack on Kramatorsk, an eastern city. Pavlo Kyrylenko stated to Ukrainian TV. On Wednesday, a Russian missile struck an apartment building in the city. Four people were killed.
Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine's goal is to "start negotiations this year".The process will take many years and will require drastic reforms. This is especially important considering that the country receives billions in aid. Last June, Kyiv submitted its formal application.
The Ukrainian government wants more Western military aid. This is in addition to the tanks pledged last Wednesday. Warring parties are expected to launch new offensives after winter ends. Kyiv has demanded that the West provide long-range missiles and fighter jets.
The US announced Friday that it would send longer-range bombs to Ukraine as part of a USD 2.17 billion aid package. The small-diameter, rocket-propelled, GPS guided, ground-launched bombs (GLSDB), are fired from HIMARS rocket launchers. They glide to targets up 150 km (93 miles), twice the distance that the US rockets for HIMARS could reach previously.

France and Italy also agreed to supply Ukraine with a SAMP/T–MAMBA air defense system. Officials in France call it the European equivalent to the Patriot system the US has given Ukraine. The delivery of the missile battery is scheduled for this spring.
The EU provides Ukraine with financial and humanitarian assistance and announced that it is increasing its military training mission. Its initial goal was to push 15,000 troops through schooling, but this number has now risen to 30,000 troops. One goal is to train the tanks crews that Western countries have offered Ukraine.
