Daedalic Entertainment announced that it has partnered with Spitfire Interactive in creating Capes, a turn-based super hero strategy game for consoles and computers. The game will be available sometime this year. Spitfire Interactive, a developer founded by members of Defiant Development (creators of Hand of Fate), is Spitfire Interactive. Morgan Jaffit is the team's leader. He was part of Irrational Games when 2002's Freedom Force was developed.
Capes takes place in a world that has seen evil triumph over good, and where super-powers are illegal. Keep this in mind the next time you forget the tinfoil from a baked potato before it is microwaved or the do-not remove tag from a mattress. Inadvertently, you might give yourself illicit abilities. You are the commander of a team of super-heroes that, contrary to their name, don't wear capes. Your mission is to recruit heroes for your cause and complete a series side- and main-missions to defeat evil and liberate the city.
Today's trailer shows Capes' visual style, gameplay, and I have to admit that I am not impressed. Although not every super-hero game requires that you wear underwear on the outside of your pants, the trailer shows how the characters look tired and the environments look dull. I would like to make my own super-hero games if I played one. However, nothing in the current information suggests that this will be possible.
Despite Marvel's Midnight Suns being on the market, there is still room for tactical super-hero games. It has a solid pedigree, so this trailer might not be the best representation for what Capes has.
