Lance Reddick, John Wick and The Wire star, dies at 60
Reddick was a character actor who specialized in portraying sinister authority figures on film and TV.

Reddick's costar on The Wire, Wendell Pierce, paid tribute to Reddick on Twitter. He wrote, "A man of great strength & grace. As talented as he was an actor, he was a musician too. He was the epitome of class. John Wick - Chapter Four director Chad Stahelski, and star Keanu Reynolds said they dedicated the film to Reddick and were "deeply sorrydened and heartbroken" by the loss.
Reddick was often dressed in a suit or uniform throughout his career. He played tall, elegant, and taciturn men of distinction. Reddick is best known for his role in The Wire as Lt Cedric Daniels, a straight-laced officer from Baltimore. His character was trapped in the messy politics and chaos of the Baltimore police department.
David Simon, the creator of Wire, praised Reddick via Twitter: "Consummate professional. Devoted collaborator. A lovely and gentle man. Loyal friend. I could go on, but I can't. This is heartbreaking. It's all way, way, too soon."
"I am an artist at heart. I believe I'm very skilled at what I do. Reddick stated to the Los Angeles Times that he felt that he was very good at what he does.
Reddick also starred as Phillip Broyles on Fox's Fringe, the smartly-dressed Matthew Abaddon in Lost. He was also the special agent Phillip Broyles on Fox's Fringe. Charon, Charon, the multi-skilled Continental Hotel concierge, was portrayed by Reddick in Lionsgate’s John Wick movies, which will release later this month.
"The world of Wick wouldn't be the same without Lance Reddick, and the unparalleled depth he brought Charon's humanity to his unflappable charisma. Lance leaves behind a lasting legacy and a vastly impressive body of work. But, we will always remember him as our sweet, joyful friend and Concierge," Lionsgate stated in a statement.
Reddick was part of the ensemble that screened Regina King's One Night in Miami film in 2021 and earned a nomination for a SAG Award. Reddick was a regular on Intelligence, and American Horror Story, and was a part of the show Bosch for its seven-year run.
His next projects include 20th Century's remake White Men Can't Jump, and Shirley, Netflix's biopic about former Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm. He was also slated for the John Wick spinoff Ballerina and The Caine Mutiny court-martial.
He was also featured in many movies, including I Dreamed of Africa and The Siege.
"I never was interested in television. It was always a means to an end for me. Like many actors, I was only interested in acting in theater and film. Oz changed television. It was the beginning of HBO's reign of quality, edgy and artistic programming. He said that the content harkens back to the great cinema of the '60s & '70s," he said to The Associated Press in 2011.
On the CBS series Intelligence, he played the role of Jeffrey Tetazoo (director of the Central Intelligence Agency). He played Papa Legba on American Horror Story: Coven. He is the intermediary between the spirit world and humanity.
