Kelis Reflects on How her Husband's Death 'Impacted' her Life One Year Later

After reflecting on the one-year anniversary his death, Kelis shared a message to her fans.

Kelis shared her thoughts on the whole experience in an Instagram post posted Tuesday, March 14th. Although the eccentric singer acknowledged that she was aware of her health for a while, she didn't feel the need to explore non-traditional wellness and health practices until Mike Mora, her husband, was diagnosed with stomach cancer in 2021.

Kelis also noted that many people have difficulty maintaining their health due to a lack of education. Kelis also encouraged fans to be more aware of the food they eat.

In the video, she stated that "We don’t even know who we can trust anymore. We don’t know where we should go. We go to doctors for things that don’t make sense. But food is what we eat, it’s how we live and breathe, and how we put our feet on the earth.

The singer also noted that this was the inspiration behind the creation of a product under her Bounty & Full skincare and wellness brand, called Brain Food. Kelis said that although it was too late to help Mike who died on March 13, 2013, she still finds the product very helpful.

Kelis is not the first to talk about how her husband's passing affected her. In a September interview with PEOPLE, she spoke out about the difficult situation, but also expressed gratitude that she was able to say goodbye slowly.

She said, "It wasn’t something that was sudden. We were able to prepare, love, and say goodbye. We were able to spend the time we needed, as much as possible, in the best way we could. Is this a great situation? It's not great, but it's a blessing."
