Russia tries to retrieve a US drone "downed by jet" in the Black Sea

According to a senior Russian official, the Kremlin will attempt to recover the remains of a US drone that was hit by a Russian fighter and crashed into the Black Sea.

The US authorities have taken steps to limit the Russians' ability to extract useful intelligence from the craft if they recover it, Mr Kirby stated, without going into detail about the measures they took.
The MQ-9 Reaper drone measures 65 feet in width, can fly at 480kmph and has a range up to 2,000 km. It can also carry missiles. There are concerns that the technology could be shared with Russia if it falls into Russian hands. This could include Iran and North Korea.
Yevgeny Prizhin, founder of the mercenary Wagner Group that led the Russian attack on the city, stated yesterday in a social media post that Russian forces are expanding their encirclement around Bakhmut. This claim could not be verified.
Bakhmut must be passed by Russian forces in order to push into Donetsk's provinces they don't yet control. However, western officials claim that the capture of Bakhmut would have a limited impact on the war.
According to the UK ministry of defense, paramilitary units belonging to the Wagner Group had taken eastern Bakhmut. A river running through Bakhmut marked the front line of fighting.
The president of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky met with top military and intelligence officers to discuss the situation in Bakhmut on Tuesday. All agreed that the city must be held and protected, the presidential office stated.((c)Telegraph Media Group Ltd 02233)
