Dodge will resurrect its controversial muscle car model, Challenger SRT Demon as a final special edition before production of the brand’s current V8 engine cars finishes later in the year.
This limited-edition Dodge Challenger drag racing car will be the fastest and most powerful Dodge Challenger ever made. It is based on the 2018 Challenger SRT Demon model, which some criticized for being too powerful and barely street-legal.
Dodge claims the new car will produce 1,025 horsepower and 945 foot-pounds of torque using E85 ethanol blend fuel. From a rolling start, it can reach 60 mph in 1.66 seconds. Although the vehicle's performance is slightly affected by fuel with lower levels of ethanol, it still produces 900 horsepower and 810 foot-pounds torque on E10 fuel.
Dodge says the 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 starts at $96,666 -- these last three numbers are a reference the devil -- but it could go up to $120,000 with fees, options, and accessories. The order window for the vehicle opens on March 27.
Stellantis owns Dodge. It plans to build 3,000 vehicles in the U. S., and 300 in Canada. This is subject to the availability of parts and supply chain issues. This would be comparable to the production of the 2018 model.
When asked about the vehicle’s fuel economy, he replied "it's terrible." But later, he called it "eco-friendly" as fuel with high levels of ethanol burns more efficiently and is cleaner than traditional gasoline. The mandatory gas-guzzler tax will apply to the car at $2,100
The car was expected to be revealed by Dodge earlier in the year. However, engineers were "blowing up engines" to extract as much performance from the car as possible, Kuniskis stated. Engineers developed a new supercharged engine to solve the problems.
Dodge's 2023 Demon SRT muscle car is the seventh special-edition model. It celebrates the end of production of the current Challenger/Charger muscle cars. Since its introduction more than a decade back, Dodge has sold more than 2 million of these vehicles.
Kuniskis stated that "you have to celebrate this ending," and that the Challenger is a "halo model" for the brand, drawing the attention of customers who buy other vehicles. "We do crazy more than anyone."
